The American Dream Prosperity Index (formerly known as the U.S. Prosperity Index), produced by the Legatum Institute in partnership with the Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream (MCAAD), provides a comprehensive picture of prosperity in 50 states and Washington D.C. The Index also measures prosperity at the county-level for 1,196 counties in 12 states: California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New York, Oklahoma, and Texas.
The Index, comprising over 200 indicators gathered from more than 80 separate data sources, is a transformational tool designed to help policy makers, investors, philanthropists and community leaders strengthen the pathways from poverty to prosperity across the nation, enabling all Americans to achieve their dream. It also provides journalists, researchers, and citizens access to meaningful data to better understand the impact of decisions being made that affect their communities.
As well as reports from the 2021 Index and earlier editions, you can download a range of content including state and county profile datasheets, a detailed methodology report, and the full 2021 dataset. (Note the 2021 Index was known as the U.S. Prosperity Index.)
